The Beta 2 Glycoprotein 1 (β2GP1) IgG Antibody Serum test measures the concentration of IgG-class antibodies directed against the β2GP1 protein. This protein is associated with phospholipids in cell membranes, and these antibodies are primary pathogenetic markers for Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS). APS is an autoimmune disorder characterized by recurrent arterial or venous thrombosis (blood clots) and/or pregnancy complications. The presence of these antibodies is a critical diagnostic criterion, often tested alongside Lupus Anticoagulant and Anti-cardiolipin antibodies. High levels are strongly indicative of a significant clotting or obstetric risk.
